reading proj says jump i say the earth is spiraling helplessly towards climate doom; how high?
I joined it a while back, and requested some books. Most I got approved for but was rejected for a small number of them, and one publisher didn't bother to get back to me. I think it depends greatly on the publisher, and they probably get a lot of feedback on goodreads (whether it is good, or bad feedback is another matter, however.) Perhaps getting a domain name for your site might help, as domain names always
look more professional, but I think having your own site is much better than posting comments on goodreads as it is more structured. Perhaps looking for ways to increase the Reading Project's SEO would help, too as publishers would want reviews for their upcoming books to get a wide audience.
You're right, and I have mostly resisted promoting the site. It was largely started as a quixotic venture and remains so. I'm a little naïve and would prefer it to be discovered as some have. Going down this road was more about seeing what else we could do. I might try different things and see if they're interested in a few years. But I don't want to change and become corporate just to do an industry a favour.
Your own personally made and continuously updated website may have over 350 reviews, but does your Goodreads have 5 reviews?
My rule of thumb is that any time that I start to feel like I'm dealing with an automated switchboard, I'm out. Unless it's an actual switchboard for my doctor's surgery. Life's too short.
I admit, I was annoyed by the explanation yesterday morning rather than the result. But by the afternoon I was over it and decided to look at Goodreads. It turns out that even my shorter reviews are too long for their platform (yes, I know I’m verbose, but making my own website means I do it the way I like). I made an account and posted 36 of my most recent reviews on the site. That is, I posted partial reviews ...
... with a link back to the complete Reading Project reviews. I figured, long term, it might let more people discover my site, and I’m setting myself up for more options down the track. Whatever happens, this site is core to what I am doing. Thanks for the feedback guys!
Reading Project stays the focus or we riot! But I do admit, you getting ARCs would be pretty cool
Just fixing a typo on this review. So many typos ....!
