Hello! It's been a while since I've done anything here.. I was in the process of creating a huge background resource and truthfully it was WAY TOO MUCH WORK, so it's being shelved for now. But anyway I'm graduating uni soon, so I'll have way more time to update the site!

However I do need a little help. I want to fix up the spaghetti code of Rabbitnet. Does anybody know of a good way to keep my sidebar and heading consistent across pages without having to copy and paste it all the time *or* use iframes??? 👉👈 🥺 I can't keep living this copy + paste life, it's a nightmare

i've got this bookmarked somewhere, somebody somewhere on neocities has a tutorial/code snippet that i believe uses javascript to make navigation-coding less of a chore; i'll try and find it and get back to you (or hopefully a magical person who has the code will see this post)!! :3

not necessarily what you're looking for and i do recommend using the prepackaged js solution but if you ever for some reason need a native html solution for includes you can save the code separately as it's own html file (without html head body tags etc) and use <object type="text/html" data="this is where the filename goes"></object>

yeah, it's most certainly ai crawlers scraping our websites for their slop machines. i'm not sure how come kyle not have done anything about it, i'm starting to feel like even neocities is not the internet i dreamt of. sad shit

In all honesty, I don't think you should rely on a singular website of being the internet you dreamt of. The internet I dreamt of is being a sprawling chaotic mess of individuality, covered on many corners of the web. That's the web I grew up with. Just like Geocities when it was still alive, it wasn't the only thing on the web. Shit, I remember old Angelfire sites, and self-hosted sites.

@tsugato i don't see logic. NC is a hosting with additional (barely relevant) features. A hosting first and foremost, for people to run their own unique separate sites on. Are you saying i should instead pay for 5 hostings and run 5 different websites for whichever reason? I think a better solution is to at least attempt preventing crawlers from abusing this one hosting, which is supposedly what i pay for.

Neocities is not a "website". it's literally a "hosting" with *a bit* of "social networking" screwed on top of it, which at least i barely use. I see it as a perfect middle ground solution for user-made web, but now the AI bots are making my site unusable. How is this a problrem of using a popular hosting? Diversifying my choices will do jack shit, not like neokweb etc aren't scraped. This crap is everywhere.

I'm not saying you should be running 5 hosts or jumping ship from Neocities. I was just pointing out how the old web was more fragmented, which gave it resilience. I totally get the frustration with the current wave of AI trash scraping everything, we're on the same page there. I just don’t think Neocities alone can carry the dream of a better internet if it gets bottlenecked by this kind of bullshit.

replaced music control icons with image files because i dont feel like trouble shooting stuff so if youve ever had trouble with the music player icons just use the new code here sorry for taking so long lol let me know if theres any issues
