I really love the subtle text-shadow effect on your headings. Your whole site's design is pleasing to me (I can actually read it!), but that little shadow is the cherry on top.

btw I'm working on reuploading all the yesterlinks stuff to my own bookmarks page. right now you can only find it on archive dot org so I figure if anyone still wanted those resources handy I'd nab em.

the source code for yesterlinks is also still available on github! https://github.com/sadgrlonline/yesterlinks so if anyone wants to they could potentially download it and fiddle around with it themselves, it looks like all the data is still there

@punkwasp yeah I thought about doing that but it involves JavaScript and bleh. I'm just using owls script. but if anyone else wants to do that it'd be awesome!

It's also an accessibility issue. Screen readers don't always announce new tabs.

yea i need to work onmy site for this ^^; i love opening things in new tabs and didnt realize other people dont nor did i know the accessability issue it creates. not to mention some of my links open in a new tab and some dont. will slowly fix that (among many other issues)

I thought it was common practice to code "target="_blank" for any link going off-site, then stay on the same page for your own site. Is this specific to a particular screen reader?

Oh interesting, thank you for the link! Actually now you mention it, I remember reading it's good practice to tell a user if a link will open in a new tab or not, this was a good reminder.

Aww, thank you! I will note it's unfinished- I haven't gotten around to playing in a while, but I do plan to pick back up at some point. The nice thing about solo play is that the game waits for you.

Hi there, I read your accessibility post and I noticed the same. I'd like to join the Accessible Net directory along with my other site (scopefilter) which meet the vast majority of the criteria EXCEPT a light-dark toggle. I realize this kind of toggle is useful but the sites do respond to native High Contrast modes in Windows to switch the colour scheme which I hope is enough until I have the chance to code it.

The other thing I wanted to add with the accessibility post which is something I've noticed, and I actually find very disorienting is how a lot of people's websites change layout from page to page. But I was thinking of making my own a11y post at some point so I guess that's one of the things I'll mention :) really like your site design btw (Also the Punk Wasp link in your blog post doesn't lead to a blog post)

You actually don't need to code a toggle! A simple prefers-color scheme light/dark media query with some colors switched around works fine :> I provided some links on how to do it underneath that guideline, kalechips shows how to do it quickly! https://kalechips.net/stuff/snippets?p=darkmode

Thanks! Took awhile for me to figure out why it wasn't working but Kalechip's code doesn't work unless you enclose the :root {} inside the media query... which is what they've done on their site. You can use the Dev Tools which has a Light and Dark mode switch to test if it's working.

read your article on acessablility! ive been trying to make my site more accessbale but still have a lot of work to do ^^; i like the freeze gif mechanism you used, ill have to look into implimenting that one since my current is a little buggy

this is a request specifically for me re: webring/directory but... can you remove "debt" (and potentially also "death") from your spam word list so i can actually submit my join request? had the same issue with kale's responsive directory form LOL. you can put it back after i join if you want :)
