the straightforwardness of this is very clean, very powerful. it feels like a monologue, almost, a warning with weight from the line breaks. i like how it closes and ends with 'you never forget the smell'--giving it the definite article and repetition instead of a description

I've loved all of the prompts, but I've been swamped all month! Finished up and posted the piece I started for the feb(!!) echo prompt, hopefully freeing myself from the "oh god i can't read anyone else's before I write my version what if i can never have an original idea" cycle. Looking forward to catching up on folks' writings!

Hey, if it's any comfort, I read other people's pieces all the time before writing my own. It prompts me to think about the prompt in new ways, which gives me a more original idea than what I started with!

I really liked this piece! The questions posed to the trees are so earnestly simple, so concisely phrased. And I love the sounds of "only whispers what the wind will allow" as well as the idea. Really cool.

explore a life cycle in some kind of writing. for example, you could use metamorphosis, diapause/hibernation, paedogenesis [very weird], puberty, the salmon life cycle, the amphibian life cycle, or something else entirely! you don't have to be direct-- just start here and get inspired.

After re-reading it, I figured ghazl sounds better in Arabic due to the motion of its vowels and lack thereof, but English may still have a chance if the rhyme scheme was just right.
