Very true. I've been realizing how much I actually worsened my attention span over time, with that infinite, easy reward. And leaving the "big" sites only made me refresh other things compulsively because it's harder for me now to allocate energy to tasks with no - or slower - rewards. Energy that could be spent not only on tasks, but on healthier hobbies like reading books, creating things...

I've found myself making fake arguments in my head to ppl especially around the time I was still coming out to people/processing their reactions, but social media wise it's the same. I found it's better to block keywords but it doesn't entirely help. I'm happy you're finding ways to get away from it though.

Your experience on Tumblr was very similar to mine on Twitter. It's so tempting to hate-read all the pointless discourse, but now that that app is gone from my phone, I have so much time to spend on my hobbies instead! I try not to focus on all those hours of my life lost...but I am glad to have all that time back for my future.

@mostlypixels, wow i also find myself refreshing other site frequently, like im pacing aorund on the internet (demonstrating its not a perfect fix, but at least a step in the right direction)

@pixelglade yea its definately hard to avoid inflammatory stuff. for myself i knew i had to just remove tumblr entirely bc i just dont have the disipline even if i blocked tags and users. i know i would hate read blogs rather than block them. anyways, good luck on your healthier social media journey!!

Is it "okay" to have several very tiny websites -- rather than a larger "everything goes with individual pages design"-- website, on neocities? Even back in the 00's, I was always more into collectives of micro-sites than larger personal sites. (Yes I'm getting imposter syndrome.)

absolutely! you have supporter on neocities so it should be extra easy to switch between neocitie accounts :3 i personally keep most my stuff on my main site bc i wouldnt know what to seperate anyways but that a personal thing not a cultural/ediquitte thing

So glad to hear it's not an etiquette thing! I browse the general activity page avidly and I felt I was doing things wrong. The switch is easy indeed (except I forget to log myself out on the CLI tool and randomly replace a site by another, which happened only the one or twenty times.)

No comparisons should ever be made. As long as you're pleased with your own content, it's the most important. Never forget that a website is made by someone who has tastes and a life, the site is only there to convey ideas and designs. Some people are talkative, other are nearly silent, that doesn't make them less worth than talkative ones. Your website is really awesome and I wish I had 1/100th of your talent.

I can feel there's passion and work behind your stuff, it's easy to criticize but harder to actually do content. Do it like you want, please yourself before trying to appeal to others. I believe in you !

Love the tone of your smol images post. Huge plus one to everything you are saying! I'm inspired to swap all my images over to webp!! Personal shoutout to TinyPNG and TingJPG for easy compression. There is a VSCode extension available for it too (up to 500 images a month on the free tier)
