The video doesnt play but this redesign looks cozy so far. Definitely more portfolio-feeling than a personal site for sure, though some non-standard UI can make it personal again. I like personal sites more personally since we're on Neocities and not LinkedIn trying to get hired, but that's just one opinion

PSA: marquee not functioning in chromium browsers is a bug. it was fixed today-ish, and is working again in chrome canary. https://issues.chromium.org/issues/493612790

marquee not working in a major browser is almost always a bug. like, despite being deprecated, it still remains in the HTML5 standard. i don't foresee it being out-right removed anytime soon. it's against the spirit of the web to break websites.

It continues to surprise me whenever I see people even put their tabling right on their HOMEPAGE, like I never thought a little custom gift for following me would stick around and reverberate around Neocities for so long. It's really really cool, and I hope someone else on Neocities does something similar too! Though @astersarchive did do a pretty neat pixel art pizza party sort-of event page

too many times i get stuck because i don't like the current version. but redoing the current version means i need a Post page and a Scripts page and also the Links page but also the Gallery page so it's just in development hell and never sees the light of day

you could just archive this and then start from scratch, maybe even entire scratch without a layout and hear yourself out, see where you'll land. don't get stuck in the image of yourself you've made years ago — if it doesn't serve you no more, if it doesn't feel like home, build a new one. Its alright!

If you do rebuild it, I'd recommend trying to build it back up to something simple. When I tried to make my site I tried to do it in a way where I didn't commit to a crazy layout so I can just leave the design alone until the end of time, letting me focus on putting stuff on my pages rather than tweaking the UI stuff around them. Hope that helps idk!

i'm doing a bit of rehauling and that includes my links page which has become a large mess... my largest tension point with it is accidentally publically displaying someone's worth to me and I don't want that. but i also don't want it to just be a large list of unrelated links

I've been in a very similar situation so I understand your pain and hope things are improving. I had a breakdown at my desk, abruptly quit and went to drive tractors for 6 months before coming back to software development. Your plan sounds better. Fewer tractors, though.
