I've seen people on youtube complain that the Winsor and Newton watercolours aren't pigmented enough - I quite like the muted, pale colours - they are what a watercolour is supposed to be. If you do landscapes, muted, pale colours are what you want in the painting. The muted and pale look is often seen in Edith Holden's work, Field Guide art, etc, so it's the look that I would want when trying to do realistic landscapes and paintings. If you want that effect with other brands, you'd have to water it down a great deal, and need a lot of space to do so. need to carry a lot of water with you to get them pale enough. I don't think people consider how other people use the different watercolour brands, the style of paintings that other people do, or how they use them.

Ah Christmas, that time of the year when all companies put pressure on you to buy tons and tons of stuff that you can't afford (and most likely, don't even need), and sink you into more debt than you was previously.

This is interesting. Back in 2013, I used to buy quite a lot of international goods on etsy. (I don't anymore, because of the shipping costs.) I noticed more recently how the shipping costs, especially from the US was a lot higher than it used to be. I was looking at an artist's shop that I like which I bought some prints from a number of years ago because I like their art, but didn't get prints of all the art work

that I wanted. They now have an etsy shop, and boy are the prints far more expensive than what I paid for back when they sold on their own website. The prints were about $10 each - now they are twice that, plus the shipping. On their website if you bought three prints, you could get them all shipped together at no extra cost to you. Contrast that with their listing on etsy, and you are charged more for the shipping

with each print that you buy, plus a humongous tax fee, too, so what cost me about £30 then would now cost me in extent of £80, which is a huge price increase. (Don't know why the artist stopped selling on their own website, or why they don't sell on redbubble, or deviant, etc.. Just thought that people should be aware of it. I don't know if clicking on a listing which is advertised causes etsy to take more of a percentage, or if clicking on the listing in the seller's shop means that they get all the money they should, but I think people should just be aware of how bad etsy has become.

If there is one thing that is irritating it's constant, spammy (and sometimes creepy) marketing e-mails. You sign up to a website because you want to buy something from them at a later date (you have to wait because you don't have the money to buy it at the moment), and the site constantly spams your e-mail several times a day. Wouldn't mind if it was once a week, but several times a day is too much.

Today, I followed my first youtube tutorial. Somewhat happy with the results, but I need to practice more.

I found it mentally tiring as opposed to physically tiring, so I think that I'll take a break and do another one tomorrow. I think that how it is benefiting me is teaching me how to mix colours, shade and give depth to parts of the paintings where before I was just painting flatly.

The new computer arrived a few days ago and I've installed LOTRO on it. The graphics are sharper, and less cartoon like, and the lag that I've been having problems with lately on the old computer is non-existent (for now, at least.) I'm slowly getting everything that I want on to this new machine and (hopefully) with it being much less laggy, I can get more work done on it.

I find it's more difficult to choose a computer now because they lack things that they should have, than choosing it based on the operating system, processor speed, etc....

The new computer is here, and it's currently downloading LOTRO... It's currently on 58% as I am typing this. It's a nice little machine, smaller than the old laptop. Don't know if I can connect the scanner/printer to it yet. It needs a mouse. One thing that I have noticed with computers these days is that you don't seem to get everything with them. When you get a desktop, it appears to lack the monitor, etc, etc...

The past couple of days I have been watching the US edition of It's Me or the The Dog on youtube and quite frankly, almost /every/ single dog on there that were a 'problem' was down to the owners either neglecting them, being cruel to them, or allowing others to be cruel to them. Some of them were so alarming that I'm surprised that SPCA and equivalent orgs didn't get involved. Heart breaking, really.

Been organising my sewing stuff the past couple of days. Sometimes, it's amazing how much space that you discover you actually have (when you thought you had none), if you just do a little reorganising.

Another observation if you are interested in drawing, don't just limit yourself to anime/manga. I've noticed that a lot of arty people like to draw anime and manga, but there are so many forms in nature that are interesting subjects, whether it is plants, or animals.

Been catching up with doing Inktober drawings today. Got a bit behind because I've been busy with other things. (My desk area in particular needs to be sorted out for my new computer that's (hopefully!) coming soon. One thing I have learned is that I need to practice more with certain creatures. I don't mind that they aren't perfect, though because I can see where I can improve on them, and it's interesting to draw

creatures that I don't normally do. I've also found that I am quite good at drawing birds - the only problem I seem to have there is the feather detail on the wings, and getting the markings drawn accurately. Quite surprised, really since I've always liked mammals more than birds.

Finished watching the new episode of Channel 5's All Creatures. One thing that lets the series down is the dishonesty that it implies the characters had, which doesn't sit well with me. It implies that Siegfried was married more than once, Helen is a tart, among other things. In this episode Siegfried's lie to Tristan about Tristan passing his exams is revealed to him. The problem is that the characters are based on

real people, so any misrepresentation or exaggeration of character flaws reflect badly on the person (even if they are gone) and causes problems for any living members of their family. It isn't right to do this for entertainment and the 'drama' should concentrate on the animals instead. I am glad that I cancelled my subscription to World of Cross Stitching. This month's edition is awful. Usually, I tend to find a few good designs in the mag that I want to do, but not in this one. The worst has got to be the 'free' calendar of Teddy Bears and the religious scene.

Wouldn't mind so much if they mixed the type of designs up, but they decided that this months should be all the dreadful ones. Almost regret that it did actually arrive as it was late coming.
