basically, the entire internet could be distilled down into wikipedia, discord, and youtube, and no one would even know it.
and we're not even TALKING about the fungibility of reality with youtube's new compulsory generative AI "enhancer" that it's rolled out to shorts and will soon roll out to the entire host. smoothing wrinkles, blurring backgrounds, changing skintone, enhancing smiles, there is no reality anymore. the internet is dead and google killed it, yet its shadow still looms.
and that is probably where/how neocities would be targeted if kyle was forced to go under a NSFW ban that would inevitably affect trans women more for Reasons you probably are very well aware of by now
although since kyle alr accept bitcoin donation maybe he'd just cut off the credit cards and switch to payment methods that don't require getting choked out by an amurrican "totally a company and not puppet of the amerisreali forces of evil"
commit c984251 is the most troubling change. obvs not knowing what the admin console looked like before my fears may be unfounded, but it looks to me like the refactor made it easier to shadowban by marking as nsfw. i cant find any indication that a confirmation is required on the admin side to mark the site.
unless there's a rampant porn spam problem on this host i dont know about, no-confirm shadowbanning makes it easy to dismiss a site without thinking about it too much. this action isn't shown in the ban list either afaik so it becomes a "needle in a haystack" situation (viz. the responsibility of the affected webmaster) if a false or malicious marking is made
so yes, trans women getting forced out of the supporter tier will happen as a matter of course, but kyle has set the admin console up for tumblr-level corruption, and that's why i removed links to neocities' main site from my homepage. it doesn't follow to suggest this host as a place to set up a website, just for some admin in a hufflepuff scarf to drop the axe on them after the first word.
Kyle's stance has remained consistent. https://divinicide.neocities.org/media/kylensfw.png
are they adding more AI features in the backend? what other host do you think you would move to?
kyle has been doing a lot of admin console optimising to streamline shadowbanning and full banning. considering this is the weapon most of the internet is currently using against transfems, i can only assume neocities is headed in the same direction
as for another host? i dont know of one. nekoweb is the obvious choice, but the EU is about to initiate Chat Control, so that ceases to be an option.
wouldn't reccomend nekoweb for most serious webmastering but this is mostly a vibes-based opinion, if you'd have to self-hosting is easier than u think
as i understand it, nekoweb is based in germany, hence the problem with chat control.
holy shit, the chat control law sounds terrifying :( wishing them good luck
THANK YOU!!! :-D
