I made a minor metadata update today consisting of just adding the rel="me" attribute to my link to my new site. This *may* decrease the chances of search engines getting confused. It is supposed to indicate that another page or site is the same identity as oneself (such as when linking to one's own social media accounts or other platform accounts). You may find adding that to attribute to your own such links useful.

I've added the previously mentioned browser cache related glitch fix info to my Neocities stub page now too (with greater depth and detail for clarity). The info can be found at the bottom of my Neocities stub page in the "PS" section. If you have continued having problems viewing some of my pages then this may help.

Another important update: Even though my previous removal of the domain redirection fixed the page loading problem as far as I could tell earlier, it re-occured later on, but I fixed it by clearing my browser cache for the site. Many of you (those of you who have browsed my site before) may need to do the same. In Firefox: open history, find a WraithGlade entry, right click then "forget this page". That'll fix it!

It is fairly likely that many of you also have outdated caches for my website on your browsers. So, to ensure less chance of other subtle page loading glitches going forward you should all make sure to clear all cache and history in your browser related to WraithGlade.com! I hope that helps! Thanks!

There are apparently still some glitches on my new host and several of my pages are not loading (the ".html" is getting cut off for no apparent reason). I'll be trying to fix that soon. Some turbulence is to be expected in any host switch though.

Ok, so I think I fixed it now! I had a "www." URL forwarder set up on my domain registrar to shorten the URLs by removing the "www." but that was causing random problems with my new nameservers. Neocities even mentions the same pitfall in its own custom domain setup help doc page. Now though, I am in control of such things (instead of Neocities) and thus the glitch surfaced on my new web host. It looks fixed now.

I may try to renable the "www" removal somehow later on, but for now I am just using the full "www" domains to avoid any bugs.

Ok! So, I've just performed my Domain Name Server switch for the new site but it looks like the changes haven't propagated across the internet yet. Thus, if you access "WraithGlade.com" currently you'll see some odd half-applied design settings. The Neocities site is now my new stub page though. I'll check back tomorrow morning to see if things are correct yet. Point is: The big move out of Neocities is happening!

Likewise, as you can see my profile no longer has the "Supporter" badge.

Most importantly of all though: Thank you all very much for the wonderful community this past year and more! Although I will still check back occasionally, my activity on my profile here will decrease a lot going forward. I will miss you guys! 🤗💖

I've created new download and site map pages for my site today. Yet again however, the update has not appeared in my feed. It is possible that it is being suppressed/censored by Neocities now because I stated my intent to change hosts on ethical grounds. That wouldn't surprise me at this point. Regardless though, my future is brighter by the day now. As always, I am wishing you all all the best in your own endeavors!

I don't think it's censorship, since it would probably be easier to simply clear your entire profile. It's more a backend issue, since I've been having problems with recent changes occasionally not posting to the dashboard since I started here. Plus, Neocities has a staff of probably 3, and there's almost 1m accounts now.

I agree ^^ definitely not censorship. The feed update queue has always been janky, as long as I've been here.

Thanks for the feedback and info badgraph1csghost and saltedslug!

I have a big announcement today, perhaps one of the biggest in my site's history so far: I have made the decision that I will be leaving to find a new host server for my site in the next couple weeks. That unfortunately means that we're on the tail end of my time here now. It wasn't a choice I was expecting to make so soon, but I stumbled upon the Neocities' creator's AI stance and will not support Neocities anymore.

I have posted a pretty long (at least 1 page) log entry going into my reasoning in greater depth. Boundary setting and standing on moral principle has become more important than ever in the past few years. I don't even feel like it is a "choice" anymore after what I stumbled upon today. I was apparently oblivous about to for a while. There is too much evidence of disingenous sophistry. My trust is about zeroed out.

A person should not have to repeatedly be forced to migrate from place to place just to even have their most basic human rights as creators and thinking people respected, but here we are. These past several years have truly shown people's real colors. The one upside of theft-based AI systems is that they have become a very telling litmus test for people's morality or lack thereof. Convenience never justifes theft.

On a more positive note though, this coming shift to new circumstances will enable yet more ground for expressing myself. In particular, it will become likely possible for me to implement my own suggestion of hosting a traditional forum, which is not possible really on Neocities. Other aspects of my outlook have also been improving lately in ways that matter, such sustaining and completing another creative project.

I think you're really misconstrueing what Kyle said about this. He was talking about malicious services that masquerade as "AI crawl defense." Check this thread: https://bsky.app/profile/neocities.org/post/3lgbr3cld4k2z

wraithglade 1 week ago

Nah, I wasn't talking about that "AI crawl defense" stuff really. My decision to leave was more about his whole dismissive attitude towards all anti-AI people. I read a bunch of the related stuff and got bad vibes in several respects. Also, the expectation that web masters need to add AI exclusions to protect themselves remains quite morally backwards. One shouldn't need to tell every thief not to steal from oneself.
