this is excellent! instead of streaming or having a seperate mp3/vorbis player my phone has a microSD slot. i'll need to get a new one once 4G is retirted but i still plan to keep it as a media machine. PS cast my purple state vote yesterday, hoping for the best

Lovely article! One thing I'd like to throw out there for anyone looking to dephone: You don't need a traditional smartphone! There are modernized flip phones out there that use 4G or even 5G cell data. I've been using a CAT S22 FLIP as my only phone for months and although it runs Android 11, I find it has the capabilities I need from a smartphone and absolutely nothing more. And these things are cheap!

wow i honestly think about this concept every single day. ive stopped using the phone when i am at home since mostly everything you do in it can be done in a computer, including calls and msg, and also suppressed all non-urgent notifications, plus enabled notifications for the other person to know my device is on sleep so that they dont expect instant reply. it's worked v well so far

regarding the AI thing gremlin and i have been talking about: it doesn't sound like the Penelope AI is anything more than an analytical engine; sort of an "autocorrect for your code" type of thing. The problem is that KD hasnt said which API Penelope is based on, so there could easily be a corporate datascraper on the other side of it.

I don't know if it is a scraper involved. However the facts of the matter are that Kyle tried at least twice to add "coding assistants" to neocities despite understanding that AI/ML A: Contributes significantly to climate change and B: The neocities crowd is against this kind of stuff, we came here to avoid some the issues that plauge the modern web

What there is proof of is coding assistants being added to the neocities text editor! These got added under the guise that they help and assist new webdevs HOWEVER the code produced by "coding assistants" is notorious for presenting code that is way more trouble then it's worth. What this will realistically result in is more lower quality web pages that don't function or require more time to fix then code that you-

I got something to share that I recalled when reading your page on NewPipe: I use an app called PipePipe that does pretty much the same thing for Android. I got it via F-Droid, a hub of FOSS applications you can get. so it's pretty clear now that i need to update my entire How To Use A Computer guide for linux mint. i wrote the guide for Windows 7 & 10, but 7 is extinct, 10 is on the way out, and you shouldn't touch 11 with a 39.5' pole. what does that leave? linux mint.
