What do you guys prefer, a wysiwyg editor or a simple text editor for html? I found a real old copy of Dreamweaver (CS3) and it works great, frankly, but it's a bit dated—it doesn't support HTML5. but I'm too lazy to edit everything by hand. hmmmm

I usually write the raw HTML in a text file or directly into the Neocities editor. Nice and old school. Haha!

I usually use a text editor, but my site is mostly incredible simple, early 90's pre-GeoCities type stuff.

I use Atom for writing HTML, as well as any plain text stuff like notes. I think this is probably a type of text editor overkill, but it's just so snazzy.

I only use Notepad++, and everything on my site is HTML or CSS. A classic gripe against wysiwyg editors is that they require you to give up some control over the logical organization of your site, even if they do make it easier to quickly shape up its appearance. Personally, I just like understanding (pretty much) every line of code that makes up my site, and don't want a wysiwyg editor to add anything.

I use my typewriter to do it all in html and then use image capture scanning software to have it converted to a text file, but some call me old fashioned like that.

I loved your little narrative on watches. Sometimes I cringe at my peers throwing around their smartwatches like they're made of nothing: they're just a total redundancy to their phones, anyway (they won't admit that, though).

Thank you! It is really nice to know that you liked it. Yes people do get wrapped up in tech sometimes, when the relationships that technology helps us cultivate are the important things. In real life my grandpa is a very bad tipper and wears a Timex.

Definitely. I forgot to add that I own a single mechanical watch, maybe from the 60s, but can absolutely relate to much of what you wrote.

I agree. I've always been a ThinkPad fan, although oldest I've tried and actually touched was a T510 (2010?). Had South Bridge problems, wouldn't boot sometimes, so I sent it back to its seller on eBay. I'd imagine old Macs to definitely be a little more robust, though I still love IBM's hardware motifs.

How useful/fun do you think buying an old Macbook/Mac Pro would be, particularly one from the Snow Leopard era? Never owned a Mac before, but I love the aesthetic and function of old OSX from what I've seen. I'm thinking of an older desktop model, maybe 2009/10/11, for document work and browsing; don't want to deal with a crappy battery, after all.

I have one that goes all the way up to Catalina, I just like to Dual Boot it with older versions. I also have a MacBook Core Duo white model and an iBook G4. Its great fun to mess with older hardware, see how usable it is in 2020, ect. I have done it before when my computer was down and actually enjoyed it quite a bit.

Interesting layout, I haven't yet seen a PDF as a site index before. Come to think of it, that could probably make things a whole lot easier to design! maybe just a little slower to load.

Aw, I only found Arctic Fox for PPC Linux. Have you ever found an x86-based Linux binary?

That's right, I remember seeing a CSS trick for Firefox, userChrome method or something similar. Wouldn't an update wipe it out, though?

It prob would, yeah. But I'd imagine you could just retain the code and copy paste it as needed? Tabs on top don't bother me much so I've never looked into the fix too much

I'm in another one of those moments...Should I use Pale Moon or Firefox? I had Pale Moon freeze for a solid five seconds trying to load an Imgur gallery just now, but Firefox doesn't have a tabs-on-bottom feature :(

If its compatible with your system you can try Arctic Fox, Pale Moon but with the bugs worked out.

I love your latest blog post "Light in the Dark." A transcendant or guiding purpose, whatever it is, always justifies patience and endurance. Too many today have lost any sense of a purpose and live in a daze, as if dead, and then consume entertainment and junk trying to fill that void a missing purpose left.

Thank you! Indeed. That is a very good point! I am often reminded of a famous Nietzsche quote, to paraphrase: "If I have a why, then I can endure any how." Without a clear why, many seem to be drifting through life, and the "bread and circuses" only serve to further distract them from their purpose. Unfortunately, when someone feels "burnt out" from the toil of the day, they can think of little else...
