The name Web-Site-Ring is a hold over from when I signed up; I had an idea to start a webring without scripting. WebRing's trademarked, so I chose the name WebSiteRing. Here's my 1st post which explains it, tho not very well: https://websitering.neocities.org/websitering.htm

WebRings aren't populat in the U.S either, unless you're feeling nostalgic. ;) I never started the web ring. Maintence would be hard without a script. I've thought of starting one using RingSurf, but haven't yet. I think of doing many things. ;)

Below your list of followers on your Neocities feed page is a list of tags for Neocities' SurfMode. Click on "Add" to add a tag. You might look over Neocities' list of sites to see tags which are already popular, but you can make up your own tag. Just type it into the window, if memory serves.

RingSurf appears to have stopped working; only the 1st page comes up. All others return a 404 error, so I guess that's out.

I read your description but I don't quite get how you were thinking of setting up the webring exactly. You know, you could just give everyone a place in the order and have them put 2 anchor tags labeled "previous" and "next" at the bottom of their main page. If someone drops out, just mail the websites on either side the new link they need to replace the old one with to keep the ring functioning.

This script looks like it would do the trick, if you're still interested. http://www.htmlgoodies.com/legacy/tutorials/getting_started/webring.txt

Yeah, my description was rather poor, like an idea written on a napkin. Except, instead of writing it on a napkin I put it on the World Wide Web for everyone to see! I've seen webring jscripts before, but I usually turn off jscript so I wanted to avoid using one.

Emailing webmasters when one site goes down is an idea, but there's always that one site that's still up and running, but hasn't been toutched in years. In fact that describes 80-90% of the sites in most webrings. :(
