ah, i know how you feel when it comes to friendships. it's hard to make them as you get older, especially because everyone is caught up with their own lives to really be down to hang out at any time. my personal solution was to have a circle of close online friends, though it's sad seeing everyone slowly disappear/become less active over time
+ it's definitely not for everyone as you can't hang out online like you can in person. i'm sorry about the falling out you had, those are always painful. just keep your mind and your heart open, and you'll probably find a good friendship when you least expect it. i also agree friendships outside of your partner are a must!
I also struggle with making friends for similar reasons. I recently started trying to go to in person group meets around a shared interest - for instance, I joined a writing club and my egl comm. I hope to start going to an open art night soon too. And I've made some friends from these places that share my interests!
