PSA: Every time I've looked up how to do something with JavaScript, CSS, or HTML and found a link to w3schools, I've been able to find a better alternative from Mozilla Developer Network. While not as high in search rankings, MDN has consistently proven to be a much better resource.

Eloquent prose. I usually interpret line as symbolic of form and tone as symbolic of how light plays on that form. It makes total sense that the iconic nature of something like a line drawing would be more closely related to the function of the objects depicted, whereas a realistic rendering without clear edges would be considered more abstract.
