Your post about "e-fame" also reminded me of the concept of the democratization of beauty, which I learned about in grad school. Similar to your observations about fame on social media, as cosmetics (and today, cosmetic procedures) became more affordable and accessible, it put pressure on women to look a certain way. These are important ideas to explore and I'm interested to read more from you!

Thanks so much for commenting! Media Virus is a great book but it was a slow burn for me too. What's most interesting about that book for me is how Rushkoff talked down the line about how the ideas were co-opted by advertsing agencies. The virus mechanism he discusses he saw as a new way for counter culture but it ended up being studied by corporations for a new way to infect pop culture with brand imagery.

Also, I've loved your site for a while. I think I tend to be disinterested in many elements of popular culture and your site is helping me to engage with topics I'm unfamilar with so thank you!

Yeah and a lot of those observations he made in the book are even more relevant today, as proven in some of your entries. I'm excited to finish the book and keep reading your stuff.
