Guys, I wanna ask: which of you use alternative text/code editors to build your site and why? Are they worth it? And which layout systems do you use in CSS to structure your HTML? Lastly, what are your tips for someone who's on its way to shaping its site in a certain style? :7

i use atom! the neocities code editor is web-based, which means longer load & save times. using a separate IDE solves that + also lets me work on larger projects without the neocities 'page updated' thing alerting everyone before it's ready! also also atom has autocomplete and community addons which are both really very helpful

tips are 1. always ALWAYS make sure your site scales up and down correctly w/ different monitor resolutions (flexboxes & vh/vw measurements are helpful for this) 2. images take time to load, especially on slower connections, so i try to optimize them/replace them with css effects as much as i can! & 3. planning your site out on paper first generally helps quite a bit

i also spent most of this morning changing the triangles on my nav menu from unicode to CSS border drawables so that screenreaders wouldn't read out "SMALL RIGHT FACING BLACK TRIANGLE home SMALL LEFT FACING BLACK TRIANGLE". thank you to keeri from https://keeri.place/ and also the yesterweb discord

hello! i love the colours and layout of your site - it's clean and also very pretty! i mean to try out some of the recipes (i'm vegan myself, as is my partner, who i also shared the link with!) and the stuff you wrote about sleep/consciousness really resonated with me. your manifesto also keeps things concise and to the point and i enjoyed reading it and going "yeah... YEAH!" love the site & i'll be coming back :^D

Oh awesome another vegan! I know the recipes are a bit basic but I'm starting to branch out to other cuisines so I'll eventually have some more interesting recipes to add. Thank you for the follow, and including my banner on your homepage. Your site design is really creative and it gives me some Metroid vibes. Love your electric blue bug as the favicon as well. I'd love to see your gallery in the new format when it's released, but I navigated to the old one through the comms page and I love the Pokemon+Digimon ones (Raichu is my fav). Have a nice day!
