in light of some ai bs neocities is pulling off, i did import this site onto nekoweb. the chances of me moving there entirely probably isn't going to happen anytime soon with me and my midterms.

@transferns supposedly it's in the code editor, but there's no settings (or real mention besides "enable code suggestions") to turn it off. i'm going this off of "rumor as it" and not gospel.

I'm not leaving Neocities because staying on here isn't any different from how everyone is glued to worse shitholes like Twitter, but feel free to share other free alternative hosts besides Nekoweb/Leprd + have an RSS feed on your new sites so I can continue following.

I had pretty extreme schizo-tier opinions on AI in 2022, but now I've just accepted it as an evil that needs to be regulated instead of gone completely. Drakey wakey already had a Daria-themed AI chatbot for April fool's this year, so I kinda been knew he's okay with AI. As long as our sites aren't going to be scraped by him (not Google, it already does that) I can't really care.

Neocities has felt very odd lately ever since that article resurfaced. Personally, I agree with you that it's something that needs to be regulated, but as much as we try to deny this tech it's always going to exist. I'm going to keep my site here, unless something happens where they implement some kind of code generator onto the platform that was clearly built on the hardwork of the users. (1)

I am so tired of site owners acting like all user-based content belongs to them. I don't understand why the developers of this technology don't use royalty free or public domain content, anyone can use that! (2)

My personal 9/11 (joking) was when DeviantART introduced AI and initially had everyone's art opted-in for training, I hope NC never gets evil but that's my personal straw. Drake's a techbro so he's going to have a positive view on AI for other usages besides "art"/writing. I don't love the post but it's an optimistic curiosity than "art theft and deepfakes are cool" bullshit.

Oh man, DeviantART... I spent so many years batting for them. It was the only active place on the web that was ACTUALLY optimized for art (I had gripes with artists posting exclusively to social media and forcing me to look at compressed, muddy versions of their art sandwiched between posts that eroded my faith in humanity). Yes, I've seen the AI blog post by Kyle. It's so missing the forest for the trees, it's hilarious. Nobody is complaining about machine learning being used in niche, highly-specialised circumstances. And nobody is saying they're as dangerous as nuclear weapons, wtf kind of comparison is that? But we are concerned about the effect it will have on creative industries and the web at large..

I came to NeoCities partially because Elon Musk ruined Twitter. And part of that rot comes from ChatGPT and other LLM being used to create bots and spam on a scale never seen before, a system that social media algorithms implicitly support. They're bringing about the death of human interaction and human creativity.

I'm probably not gonna move to Nekoweb, although it is tempting, anytime soon. I'm too busy with uni (ironically, creating art pieces about ChatGPT and how much I despise it) and can't be bothered to change all my links. Plus, the blog post is from 2023. Maybe his thoughts have changed? But I am eyeing up Nekoweb with increasing intensity

I agree with you on many significant points here. I myself have no plans to leave this site, having just arrived (on 4/20, no less!). I would say my perspective on the situation is the same as yours. Since the blog post by this person is a year or so old, I am surprised there's a "situation" about this at all, but I guess it is a good discussion to have.
