Hashiguchi's work is as timeless for its clarity as for its comedy. I don't consider her a tragic figure. An incisive, tight-lipped, peculiarly (though not quite exclusively) Japanese frustration is central to her life, manga, and death. That's one oeuvre that really deserves republication yesterday.
