Elrond and Galadriel make several trips between Lindon and Ereigon, but only one on trip do they encounter the Barrow Downs? I can see how people think it's bad. I think I could forgive the errors in the timeline, and poetic licensing with OCs, and changes to characters, as that happens with most adaptations but the lack of knowledge of the terrain, unexplained plot holes (like Isildur being captured by spiders and

The implausible journey length times also stand out quite badly, too. It takes Bilbo, Thorin and the Dwarves, and the Fellowship months to travel to Erebor, and cross Middle-Earth to Gondor, so the quick journey times (especially from Númenor to Mordor in the first series), is just plain silly. Maybe it's the short number of episodes, bad editing or lack of time stamps (time stamps are very useful for epic stories)

that is the problem. I don't care about the casting, skin colour of characters, etc, that some people moan about because that is immaterial to a good fantasy story.

The makers of the Rings of Power do realize that Galadriel is the grandmother of Elrond's kids, right? So why ship them? That's just plain wrong.

It's quite mixed, over all, but it gets brownie points for Tom Bombadil, since all other adaptations aside from LOTRO cut him out of the narrative.

I've been watching series 2 of Rings of Power, and so far, Tom Bombadil (despite being no where near the Old Forest), is about the only character that is close to the book.

If there is one thing I find off putting in holiday lets is when they use photos where there is crap all over the dining table, coffee table, etc... It makes me feel like I've got to spend half an hour to an hour cleaning up after a long journey to get there before I can settle in and unpack.

Bloke I watch on Youtube (for Lego content) : Costco makes me want to go on a massive shopping spree.... Me: Everything makes you want to go on a massive shopping spree! I like the fact that he finds ways of enjoying his hobby instead of it being left hoarded in unopened boxes and stashed messily away in boxes, never to see the light of day, but boy does he know how to spend money.

Reading Goals for the rest of the year: How to Tame a Fox, (academic text book on domesticating foxes), Star Wars: The Living Force (2nd attempt at reading - had to stop because of the eye problems), Wolf's Brother (sequel to the Reindeer People), The Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts, Hornblower and the Hotspur, and the first four books of Bernard Cornwell's Last Kingdom series.

I will also do the Seven Kennings trilogy if Listening Books get the rest of them online, and The Last Kingdom are on Listening books so I'll probably listen to them in the evenings.

From the library, I will be requesting the rest of the series of the Janny Wurts books and the rest of the Hornblower series. (I've already listened to Mr Midshipman Hornblower and Lieutenant Hornblower on audible. At the time I listened to them, they were free with audible membership, but it can change so you might have to pay for them now.)

I've started reading Megan Lindholm's (aka Robin Hobb's) The Raindeer People. It is one of the books that came on Saturday. One of the characters, Kerlew, is Austic. It's yet to become clear if it's based on the Sami culture, or Inuit people's. I should know more than I do about the Sami.

I think Janny Wurt's The Curse of the Mistwraith has got to hold the record for a mass market paperback fiction book, @ £14.99... And it's the small format, not the tall format that is about the size of an hardback. That is steep. In the 90's Tolkien's books, especially the combined volume edition of LOTR held the record @ £7.99. I don't recall how much The History of Middle Earth volumes were, but they were higher

My consignment of books from Harper-Colins came this tea time, so I am going to give the Irregular Witches one a miss - it's too chick-lity for my taste. Maybe if there weren't as many books on my list that I know that I will enjoy better, I would have continued with it, but I suspect that I am just not the target audience for it.

Just finished The Waking of Angantyr, and it's a good book for people wanting a book with an Icelandic Saga flavour. I'm not certain if I will continue with The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches - I don't find books which are adjacent to chick-lit very engaging.

I was looking for a simple reading challenge for next year, nothing complicated, just something to motivate me to read unread books, but all I have found are reading prompt lists, kind of like Inktober. It wouldn't work for me because I like reading series, so it would be unlikely that that the ones I want to read would fit a prompt, not that I really care about it anyway. Fulfilling a prompt is not what I'm looking

I don't like the NHS at the best of times but one of the main reasons I hate dealing with it is because my partner finds a way of messing it up, every single time. When I went to have the Covid Jab done, he had me running around the local shops when I should have been on the bus to the appointment. I allegedly have an appointment next week but he never sent the e-mail to my inbox so all I have is a cryptic message
