I'm curious, how rural is the area in Japan you're moving to? I read an article a while back saying that a lot of countryside areas are offering houses to citizens for suuuuper cheap (like ~$500USD cheap?) because of a bunch of different reasons

It's a good hour and a half by train to the nearest big city. It's not a big agricultural area, and there is definitely some modernization, but yes it's definitely one of those situations where they want people to move in, hence the outrageously low prices.

i'm from croatia. idk where are you from but to this day, on the news in my country they talk about the war, every single day something is mentioned. it's a VERY sensitive subject here and in serbia, people are still grieving and have their own thoughts about it. we who were born at that time want all of the hate to be over with or the ppl got influenced by their parents and still continue the hate /1

it's rly interesting to see someone getting curious about it so i'm glad you're writing this, i'm just asking you to keep your mind open because there are a lot of lies on the both sides and it's hard to understand some things if you're not from this area of the world. :)

Hi sanhyo, tysm for commenting, and I appreciate you taking the time to point that out. I'm definitely skeptical of what I'm reading so far bc so far it's probably very American/British in perspective, which throws a lot of biases into the mix. I fully intend to read about key figures and the roles they played in this, because as you say there are lots of lies out there. ->

I recently read a few accounts by Muslim refugees from Bosnia, which is why I started researching. I hope that as I learn more I'll gain a more thorough understanding of the war and its lasting impacts.
