Man, this brought up a lot for me. Still pondering. Thinking of my similar experiences, but also thinking of my niece, who is 11 (and currently obsessed with the PINK brand). I can’t really do much about it since I’m not her parent, but it hurts to see her trying SO hard to become what she has inferred is attractive to boys.
It feels impossible to help girls feel confident around their peers (by allowing trendy products, clothing, etc.) while also protecting them from adult male predators. Obviously, the solution doesn’t lie in girls changing their own behavior. But given the reaction to the files, we are a long way from holding men accountable. Depressing. Still, thanks for writing on this subject.
so much to process re: your blog... thanks for posting <3 re: selling stuff, check out how sunnysvideo.neocities.org/ does it, they are good people!
@caminus thanks for the rec! :0
Thank you for the writing. What an awful artifical world that's been made for us, how didn't we all see it sooner?
