I'm a relatively new and short-lived FFXIV player (from right before EW - right before DT, basically) and it is interesting seeing how different the story initially felt. I dunno if you ever felt this, but playing the MSQ on patch felt like going through the motions for me, which is part of why I didn't even buy DT.
@lamanon oh i absolutely feel you on that. the instant i started raiding, the instant msq became a "go through the motions quickly to be out of the way so you can prep for raid & also not get spoiled" which is just not fun. sitting down and reading so far however has been really nice. because while yes i can do a chunk of levels in a day, i'm still like taking the time to read.
Yeah, I think something similar happened to me once I started raiding, which I think is around when my gameplay loop got reduced to doing savage/ultimate, housing on the side, and just being bored of the game otherwise. Dunno how much of that is the game itself vs how I play live service games, maybe catching up to an entire expansion will feel better. Also I really like your character's glam, love that coat!
yeah, and i think that's one of the issues with xiv. like there's not a whole lot to do past raiding. like everything kinda points to "do savage to do ult" and some people will argue that like yeah, there's a ton of side content n what not, but most of it is one and done for most people if you're not going for glam, because it's all just achievement. the exception is relic sometimes.
which like, lbr here, if you're doing ult that isn't on content, you're having to do these on every job anyways so it's just like "UHHHHHH" and it ties back into the raid grind. also tyyyy! the alliance coat took so long to get b ut then i remembered it in my glamour chest and pulled it back out LOL.
interesting to read thru ur thoughts on ARR, as someone who’s only free trial and had to stop at the end of stormblood for it. mad respect for ppl who raid but it definitely sounds like it sucks that enjoyment of story takes a toll because of it :(
yeah it definitely sucks to a degree, because you unfortunately get all types in raid. the ones that read fast and can be up at 3 am PST to read story because they could fall asleep at 7 pm is not something im all too envious of. but there's also the people who just tell u to skip and be ready to farm ex before savage n its like "bruh." shit made me so glad i mained a healer so mine wasn't the most needed weapon
