I think Sims 4 is really neat, but I have to admit that I stopped playing because I found all the packs you could buy super overwhelming, in terms of play and cost. I'll almost definitely try Sims 5, but the cost factor to do anything neat still seems like it'll be such a big issue.
Something that helps me is to invert it. Instead of "Oh no! I am overwhelmed by how much is left over," I try to think "Oh joy! I have so much more to explore." Technically, I will never be able to "complete" everything, but I can try to enjoy every moment of its unfolding.
