I was reading some writing advice on Reddit this morning and here's my take: some people think that you shouldn't share or write unless you have something new, unique, or powerful to say. I think those people have imposter syndrome.
you are uniquely valuable simply by existing. your perspective is new to someone. it doesn't even matter if they read it or not, it's worth putting out there. whatever your writing does for you makes it worth it.
i completely agree. i think, due to the way the internet is, people are discuraged from sharing their work (be that art, music, literature, etc.) these days... not only is copying part of the creative process, but something unoriginal to one person, might be entirely new to the creator!!
Writing advice on Reddit, and other social media platforms can be extremely problematic for reasons like this. Waiting until you have a groundbreaking idea is a surefire way to never write anything at all. The act of writing itself can help you discover what you truly want to say. It's a process of exploration, not just communication.
