probably the hardest thing ever in keeping a personal website is that things just get old! like some pages were created with fun in my heart and not a care in the world. months pass and now they're outdated and inaccurate. I don't have time or energy to rework the page, but it feels like a shame to remove

they could never make me hate korekiyo shinguji... I like your kiyo shrine! kiyo also was a really important character to me at some point. I'll wait for your kai satou shrine too since he's also my favoritest character ever!
everything here is so cool! I really like how your site is essentially just one really long page. it felt endless like a typical tabloid website but reminded me heavily of the fun magazines I used to read as a kid. the use of 0 padding is really interesting and I was actually thinking about it just recently! I also think your OS stuff and the blenders are really cool. I also liked the fonts section.

note: I used the word "clanker" on kiibo's page in a way that I hope reclaims it! serious note: I genuinely don't like the whole clanker thing. it's no longer about the AI at this point!

Just read it. Sounds like Mariteaux only saw some "passions" as legitimate, maybe? At the time, at least (is there an update for now)? Unsure.

in 1998 people were making websites that had no purpose and no creative uniqueness. I don't understand the point of view that a website should have a purpose or be useful to the audience. That's never been the intent of personal websites. often there was a goodies page because the bulk of the site had nothing to do with the visitor or their experience.

after reading it for the first time I can't remember whether I deleted my site entirely or just abandoned it but it certainly wasn't good. I'm still trying to recover from feeling like my site shouldn't exist

not very good and also honestly read to me as a bit condescending, especially as someone who -did- have a website back in 1998. i think other commenters already hit the nail on the head of the article just seeming like websites the author personally didn't find appealing shouldn't exist, which honestly always dismays me to see whenever it comes up in personal website communities...

like yeah my 1998 website was made by a teenager and self-indulgent and silly, and it also set the bedrock for what the site i have is now. and even if it didn't, my old site deserved to exist just as much as anyone else's. i really hope martieaux has come around since writing that, but my experience with people informs me a lot of people simply never do...
