yes there is an update but not much has changed mariteaux opinion I believe

in 1998 people were making websites that had no purpose and no creative uniqueness. I don't understand the point of view that a website should have a purpose or be useful to the audience. That's never been the intent of personal websites. often there was a goodies page because the bulk of the site had nothing to do with the visitor or their experience.

I genuinely think the passion article (as well as the nostalgiamining one) created some kind of cancer in the indieweb community. well intentioned ideas but misdirected

after reading it for the first time I can't remember whether I deleted my site entirely or just abandoned it but it certainly wasn't good. I'm still trying to recover from feeling like my site shouldn't exist

not very good and also honestly read to me as a bit condescending, especially as someone who -did- have a website back in 1998. i think other commenters already hit the nail on the head of the article just seeming like websites the author personally didn't find appealing shouldn't exist, which honestly always dismays me to see whenever it comes up in personal website communities...

like yeah my 1998 website was made by a teenager and self-indulgent and silly, and it also set the bedrock for what the site i have is now. and even if it didn't, my old site deserved to exist just as much as anyone else's. i really hope martieaux has come around since writing that, but my experience with people informs me a lot of people simply never do...

i guess i'd call my statuscafe page my microblog although ive just been sadposting on it and clogging people's feeds with despair @_@

i write in it like my regular blog, just to storage all my outfits

I write it as my recent thoughts or event

I use statuscafe to microblog about my site updates and my fears about geopolitics...
