question... does a landing page with an entry button to the index turn you off from a website? at first glance, does a landing page make you think the website as a whole will be boring? do you judge a website by its landing page?
if i see a unique landing page i'll always click the entry button, it doesnt have to be fancy or good looking but needs to be cool enough to draw interest imo
I think it could be a turnoff to 'normal' people. Laziness means you want as little friction as possible. We're a bunch of weirdos here I can't imagine a landing page being a deterrent. (1)
I think it's a great way to give a good first impression for the flavour of a site. As said in earlier comments, you can be a lot artsier with it without worrying about stuff like content as the landing page doesn't need much. It's also great for accessability things. Mine has a gif toggle that works site wide and a few gifs to test it with, so the visitor will not be bombarded with animations they don't want to see.
appreciate the responses! i think after my index is done i will start work on a landing page. i really like landing pages for them not needing much content and being able to do essentially whatever you want with them. landing page it is!
i really want a landing page/or entry page or whatever theyre called. but im scared it will deter people from looking at the site.

With homepages blurring together here I think a landing page is great at setting tone/mood/listing disclaimers in a more artsy interesting way. (2)
i use mine so people can be immediately introduced to a theme switcher :-)
