It's quarter of ten on Sunday night and I'm finally starting to convert all my existing pages so I can use them with my new, mostly-working site generator setup, yeehaw

Do you want demons purging your site again because being so cavalier with my true form is how you get demons purging your site again.

I am convinced by your various posts that you are NOT a paid promoter of Eleventy.

Calling it a wrap on the Eleventy conversion for now... god I'm exhausted. https://skep.place/misc/eleventy/07-wrapup

Not that I was thinking about using a static site generator, but this is affirming my sense that it's easier to code by hand than use one. Which is wild.

The idea is that USING it will be easy. Initial setup is the pain point (I hope). I would definitely be very selective who I recommended this to.

I want my pain points to be consistently painful throughout.

tried a ssg years ago when i first started using neocities, way too much upfront pain for not enough relief afterwards, in my experience. a few spreadsheets codes i've written to autopopulate things and copy + pasting pages has made hand coding the only approach i'll take now

I think so much of the peoblem with tech documentation is people assuming if it makes sense in their head, it makes sense for everyone. A lot of my job is going "oh! Yeah, that's the blue button, don't worry about the instructions," snark free from my end, that I think there needs to be a revolution in how-tos.

It turns out the documentation is not the only thing I have fundamental issues with. STAY TUNED.

btw, i've seen it in other ssgs do the "pretty url" thing too and it's so frustrating

And I just learned that Neocities does some trickery to support clean URLs anyway.

Nothing interesting today, just some restructuring and making those dang image folders consistent. Carry on.

Actually I take it back, could be a good day to re-read my commentary on The Canterbury Tales.
