Hello there Petra! I'm working on a JavaScript library that works around the CSP issues on free accounts by wrapping the Fetch API into an iframe. I'm already planned that it should have compatibility with the Fetch API, but what extra things should I add on it? Thanks!

hey! i'm not entirely sure what you mean but feel free to send me an email to petracoding at outlook dot com with any details ! :]

I wanna make a comment widget that'll work for free accounts. Let me know which 'features' you'd want from a comment widget! :]

@gorciu do you mean reactions instead of comments or reactions to the comments themselves?

dabric's avatar dabric 1 month ago

how are you planning on making it work on free accounts if I may ask?

petrapixel's avatar petrapixel 1 month ago

@dabric iframes, as always ^^;

perhaps similar to a guestbook, with mandatory name and optional site link / email! and perhaps some basic guarding features against spam?

@tofutush yes, categories would be awesome, to go through 60+ websites and give everyone honest points required making spreadsheets to not get lost, categories could help organize it a bit ;)

@lankarta-project this time around, since winners are calculated using average points again, i will not make it a requirement to rate every single website because it would simply be impossible. instead, a random 10-20 or so will be chosen and the rest is optional!

Pollcode widget is here :) https://petrapixel.neocities.org/coding/widgets (you might have to clear cache for my site to see it / make it work)

hypothethially, if i were to make another indie web contest this year ... how should i do it? i think there'd be too many participants this time around to actually rate every single one, so the voting would need to look different.

Do it like how itch.io does gamejams! have ppl vote n then have u rate like top 100 or somethin >:O

I like seasoups idea and if you want to keep the personal touch of your ratings, maybe you could do a mixture of both. everyone can vote so you have a crowd favorite, and then you pick your top 10 and rate those only? something like a hybrid approach

for those of you with free neocities accounts (created after 2022) - are you able to use the pollcode widget? i thought it works for free accounts but maybe not!

nope, it doesnt work at all; i have to put it on a github page to even have access to it on my profile

*github page as an iframe, i can confirm it triggers the 'doesn't allow external scripts' issue :(

it used to work, but neocities updated to a stricter content security policy a year or so ago - it broke the WiiRing too, and I had to make an iframe version of it! here's more about it: https://dabric.xyz/post/neocities-csp/

@jeith thank you for the info! i'm still a bit confused because i have a 2nd (free) account to try these things out and it works for me over there.

hmm i know it only affects free accounts made after January 2024 (when the CSP was changed), so it could be when the account was made? otherwise it may be totally unrelated :P

petrapixel's avatar petrapixel 2 months ago

@jeith yeah my 2nd account was created mid 2024 so it SHOULD be affected. maybe a bug. time to create a 3rd account for testing haha
