My pc came with windows 11 and I hate it here (TT__TT) Bring back the chrispy interfaces
also I hate copilot with a passion that I start seeing red whenever I see a normal computer
I gotta nuke my mint install as there are a bunch of seemingly unrelated errors that popped up in the last month after a year of smooth going, more guides would be great, it's a good time to get people off of Windows
@nucleardive windows11 is basically as private as a smartphone from what i understand. copilot is a big part of that.
@panshiko the mint help forums are really johnny-on-the-spot. experts basically patrol there waiting for a problem to solve at all times of the day (also i dont want to think my installation is headed for the same fate ._. )
the corporate feudal state has literal billions dumped into this failing technology and they're currently trying to gaslight regular people into thinking it's not only working but it'll solve every problem ever...
ive got mutuals here who have switched over to nekoweb to get away from generative AI but at this point the only place you can run to get away from AI at all is gopherspace. since half of us are using linux now, that might not be too much of a problem...
but trying to run away from AI anywhere on the HTTP web is futile. it doesn't matter how much against AI a webhost claims to be, eventually they will end up implementing some kind of AI, either to stay current or to solve a problem that they can't afford to hire someone to solve.
I'm still going to be here and talk to people, I just am not using neocities as a webhost because now that I understand what happened and whats still there I feel a moral obligation to do something.
Kyle has stated that the coding assistant idea is only on hold. It's not at all ruled out he will add it back at some point
If neko web does this too I will straight up self host a webserver and webhost for friends
it feels very similar to me to when sites had to use web 2.0 integration to keep up & when we had to switch to smartphones with location services to keep up. not ideal, but i agree there isn't really much we can do if people with money want to use LLMs and the like to make more money. although since NFTs are no longer popular, i like to believe there is a certain threshold of stupidity the general public won't cross
@tower-falls i feel like there's a connection between the fall of NFT and the rise of AI, inasmuch as giant corporations were just starting to adopt NFT when it imploded. now they're committed to not making themselves out to be fools a second time.
@aubery Neocities was A/B testing an AI-based analytics engine called "Penelope" a couple months ago, and now KD wants to implement it across the whole site.
It's just so disappointing to see that become more of a reality. Like, I came here specifically to get away from the AI garbage on the other sites I was using. Like, what the hell?
Is there any official statement on this from him? Did our websites get scraped to train the suggestion bot? Maybe we could create a petition and kindly ask to Not do AI or lose the core userbase? I pay so i can create a sidesite for that
I already made a petition about it if you want to sign! It is at the bottom of this blog post and my home page https://gremlin.nekoweb.org/blog/10-15-24
also i reformatted the code for my buttonless neighbour list. but you wont notice that because it didnt change anything visually.
seems to still be down, with the wayback machine being restored but only in read only
I heard about PipePipe, but NewPipe had the advantage of being the one I tried first. Also, I have something to add about that reddit post...
...This, dear people, is why I have been recommending splitting up your phone into individual devices for the past 5 years. This reddit post describes basically a part-time job, co-ordinating protections for all the surveillance vectors the corporate feudal state have baked into your phone.
