It's funny that my site reached 1 million views like 11 days before it's 4th anniversary haha Like man I've just been goofing around with my dumb art and OCs and people actually perceive it?? wow
In all other social media I kind of had to consistently fight and update things to grow my following. Neocities was always meant to be something I was doing on the side without really telling anyone, and it has been the only "social media" where I gained a following even though I put little to no effort to promote my work
Like I was not doing anything to put the site out there, particularly because people in social media generally didn't give a shit so I didn't want to waste my time. I've had people follow and like my art in the past, but it was always through consistent effort in my part to do so. Here it kind of just grew on its own
Not that I'm opposed to that. My online experience has been primarily to focus on weird niche stuff that no one but myself cares about, and if people want to be spectators to it, then cheers, it's out there
I feel very similarly!! I never really felt like I was drawing the "right" things for deviantart or instagram. here I can be absent for months and switch from interest to interest and it's perfectly fine, people like my site even if not everything is to their interest. not having every page or peoce of artwork as its own post with likes and comments honestly helps my brain too
yeee you're real for that ;w; My pages do have comment boxes, but it's only the general art pages, fanfics and OC pages. The art can just Be and I don't have to worry about promoting the same picture over and over every day just to make sure people engage with it :')
