I've never been interested in fan-made work, so this was really interesting to read to better understand folks who are interested in it.

Very interesting. Personally, I've never felt that the self-re-iteration of NGE happens to the detriment of 'narrative'. But that might be bc as I exclude any franchising and so on as a given. Hm.

too long to excerpt here fully but azuma has written that "Anno flirted with the impossible task of constructing a grand narrative in the 1990s, but in the end it proved impossible..."

Is it too optimalist to ask if you have an RSS feed? I just realized I missed your very excellent gambling and JR rail pass writings until now.

uhhh you'll probably have to be content with the barebones auto-generated one at https://neocities.org/site/suboptimalism.rss , but i rarely put out superficial site updates so it'll probably work pretty well as an alert for new stuff

consequently, i put together a little RSS feed maker thing a few months back to help folks get started on their own custom RSS feeds if you want to try making your own. post here: https://nohappynonsense.net/features/reallysimple

Hi — just writing to say that I enjoyed your post on mobile phone usage a lot. The following lines caught my interest, especially: 'We Live In A Society that now expects everyone to be easily contactable if they want to participate at all. alas i am not quite at the "leave society" stage...' (Whenever I took a break from social media, and then from using my mobile phone entirely, I found social isolation the worst.)

thanks - it really is difficult to appreciate how much cell phones have become part of the "social contract" until you go without
