does anyone know how to make 88x31 buttons? i mean the animated fancy ones, not just the barebones sadgrl or hecate's layout makers (as much as i appreciate them). do i need to become a pixel artist?

I used makers for mine but I also tried pixilart.com for a few of them. if you really want the fancy unique ones then you have to become a pixel artist but the site/app was really helpful for me to learn the basics, and you can get template shapes to help.
