I'm beyond glad there are a few people on Neocities displaying collections/archives of these, I legitimately think these are their own niche little art form (like bbs forum signatures)... they have their own composition tropes, trends etc. I desperately wish we would go back to 100x100 avatars on sites! You can't do jack with a 50x50 thumbnail (or even smaller) which is probably also cropped into a circle.

Yes!! I totally feel that. The cropping and resizing is such a headache. it's so cool to see how much mileage is possible with these 100x100 graphics!
