What, if anything, are your Neocities "views" based on? It feels like an arbitrary number, it doesn't at all match up with the counter placed on the homepage.

i'm very curious if hotlinked images count as a "view" because there's no way i have 175k visitors to my site. it's gotta be from hotlinked art i've posted elsewhere getting loaded on someone's browser and counting as a view.
Definitely web crawlers are a part of it, but I didn't even consider hotlinked things potentially counting toward views - it would explain some of these crazy high numbers.
No idea but I figured it must not be blocking web crawls/bot traffic.

I don't trust it wholly either! It counts me refreshing the page as a view lol.
