hai!! im currently going into my sophomore year of college as a double major (anthropology + art history). i knew since i was like.. 12/13 that i was going to go into anthropology due to my love of history and archeology!! its all ive rly ever wanted to do. but even when i started college last year i didnt know Truly what to expect, but after lots of classes and research ive figured out what careers best suit me.

i do have a lot more to say but ill try to condense it more, i rly like doing both online and in person classes, i think it balances everything out a lot more and theres "less pressure" if that makes sense. i dont want to yap too much but if u wanna talk abt anything else u can always email me or smth!! im moving away to uni in like 12 days lol so ive been thinking abt it a lot

oops... i accidentally deleted my last post, i'm still new to neocities. but i would say if you don't know what to do, theres no pressure! not everybody knows what they want to do :p i have been in college for 4 years already and just decided to change majors so it happens. i have had a kinda rough time in college because i have no friends, but not because i haven't tried, my school just has a dead atmosphere.

i didn't think about that at all when applying but i really should've. not only having friends good for your mental health, but getting together and studying together whether or not you're studying the same thing or not will help you! of course also think about the quality of education compared to how much you're paying! college is expensive and some professors/staff are just difficult to work with :/

+1 on ringojuice comments, i didnt know what i wanted to do, and while I mildly regret not having an interest in college (aside from a brief community college stint i didnt like), I think it's better off than dumping a bunch of money into a school where you don't know what your gonna be once your complete. I'm thinking next year I might actually go to a trade school, significantly shorter and cheaper -

and may likely give more of a chance at employment after completion, maybe that could be more of your thing?

i really recommend visiting the schools and looking into the professors, even if you're pretty sure you won't like a school, visit anyways if possible, you might change your mind. i was split between two schools and ended up choosing the one i originally didn't like after seeing the campuses and talking to the professors. i ended up loving my school and am currently going crazy waiting to go back.

as for courses don't assume programs at different schools are similar/comparable because they have the same name, look into the specific descriptions, classes, and profs since they can be wildly different and one might not be what you want at all. also consider housing, even if the program is amazing if you're going to be miserable living there it may not be worth it.

i took a gap year, wish i didn't bc it kinda killed my academic momentum, now im a few terms into my first year as a cs student. i'm enjoying the work, but there might come a time where i dont & i want to change majors. i think everyone always changes majors at some point

dont get caught up in "taking too long." after high school (& even during high school, too), the idea of "being on track" doesn't really exist. life doesnt move at the same pace for everyone. you could go undecided on your major for a bit & get your core classes out of the way if you don't know what to do

i had no programming experience in high school & my only experience with it was through neocities. which might be kinda funny to say but i loved remaking and redoing my site over & over. but now i'm learning about programming past static sites & i'm really enjoying it......if my experience / reason for my major would resonate with you at all :-)

I personally didn't have a good experience with college and ended up having to drop out because it was too much for me to handle. Like I really had no idea what I was getting into, I thought it'd be like high school but a bit more challenging? But it was far beyond what I expected. Even the classes I took interest in I just couldn't keep up in.

(continued from the last post) From what I experienced, it made me realize that college isn't for everyone. And don't ever feel pressured to go/feel forced to go! A lot of society makes it seem like its mandatory to go, but it isn't. I had a lot of people try to force me to keep going or reapply but it was really ruining my mental health.

(continued) I could always go back though if I ever wanted to try again, which is another good thing to keep in mind! You can do college whenever you want, don't feel pressured to go immediately after high school. You got your whole life to try it out.

personally, what happened to me was my mother looking into graphic design and recommending it to me. it has everything i like (web design, image editing, digital illustration, so on) and it was a great fit for me. so as for majors (i cannot speak on choosing colleges because im not american), definitely choose something that is part of what interests you and is also part of your skillset.

be sure to check curriculums so you really know what you're getting into, and if the major suits you/if its worth to you.
