I don't think ai is good, hardstop. It's certainly not as a coding assistant which penelope is.

The other day I started a petition against AI/ML/coding assistants on neocities and any future plans with them. Please sign it and share it around if this is a topic that concerns you! Added a small update to my blog post from yesterday, I have checked the source code of the editor myself and confirmed that penelope is still there. I also explained how to view the source code if you want to look for yourself.

I think it's just a matter of time at this stage. the worst part is, nekoweb won't be immune either. from what i read on hackernews, tech investors know AI is failing and theyre trying to make it fashionable with startups so they can at least break even if not turn a profit.

Self hosting is something I'm still considering, I already have a vps setup for noobsandnerds so worst comes to worst I have a fallback to nekoweb too.

wait so neocities is planning on adding AI?
Already was ai in the past, it's not functional right now but Kyle only a few months ago stated on reddit that the whole concept was "on hold" + if you change "none" to "block" on a line of html within the editor you can get the AI chat window to show up.
what the petition is aiming to do is to get Kyle to fully remove the code and remove it from any of neocities future plans.
this AI nonsense is extremely disappointing :( i signed the petition and would be interested in that guide to hosting on a private server you mentioned in the blogpost.
I will make sure to let you know when it's ready! I have a VPS ready in the background but I've been caught up with the petition stuff over the past few days.
