HOUDINI Magazine will never use trigger warnings, content warnings or similar. We do spoiler graphic images if needed. I believe that these things work to distance the reader from the horror, and contribute to the passive, almost pornographic consumption of our reality by those able to use their class position to distance themselves from the issues. I want my audience to be offended, upset and angry 1/2

reading the news about Adriana Smith this morning made me sick. Not only for the torture and physical control the state has over innocents, but because of the precident this sets. she didn't deserve this. none of us deserve this. Thanks for lending your voice to this horrifying situation

one of the big advantages of being a post-print magazine is that we can cover timely issues as they happen. I had planned on writing a piece about Adriana before this, but the words never felt right. I hope I was able to do the situation justice.

when we cover graphic, raw stories whether that be the Adriana Smith case, or the horrors of Palestine, or anything else. There are an infinite number of other outlets that sanitize and provide that distance. There's only one magazine that refuses to buy into the passive language, that's HOUDINI Magazine. There's no trigger warning on a bomb, and those bombs are made in America.
You can say anything or you can say nothing.
