i have a question for all of you!! what do you think of the 'copyheart movement?' me and my friend have discussed it a bit in private cus theres lots of writings about it in the general neocities community right now. so what do you think? https://copyheart.org/ be as serious or unserious, long or short as you please! all points of view will be absorbed into my skull

I actually am completely for copying now. Wasn't before, but that's because we artists are more sensitive to theft. I generally don't care all that much if someone were to archive/rip my site layout because I, along with the site, grew up. I have more to offer than when I was learning.

What writings are there that you can link to?

Its kind of stupid, with respect. I feel like the root of a decentral web is knowing that everything you share you expect your readers (a range of designers to engineers to hobbyists) to take something from what you give. Let them dismantle your projects. Some webmasters aren't ready for that, and that's fine

I think if you just focus on your own site and what the community can do for *you*, some poser's only crime is not digging any deeper into what their website can do for them. Webmastering should be an act of self discovery, just stop worrying about thieves.

copying will never be an act of hate. it's silly especially on the free web because as far as I know we're not doing this for money. anti-copying will kill the free web

also note: those articles link to mariteaux's articles on neocities. too many people have been radicalized by it, calling it well written when it comes from the same selfish perspective that inhibits culture in the modern web which we all hate. it's also quite unproductive for something that proposes that there exists such a problem

^ sorry if "radicalized" sounds dramatic lol but they're terrible articles being heeded as indieweb principle or whatever lol

just kidding folx, I'm quite literally putting copyheart on my site next update. anyway copycats will always exist. these mindsets will only limit webmasters and instill a fear of "accidentally copying" within them

in 2022, my art was traced by someone i didnt know. i found out upon further investigation that they didnt just trace my art, they completely stole my identity. they remade spotify playlists of mine, they made their online presence look like mine, even adopted my mannerisms. this traumatized me so badly, and my online presence has been changed forever bcs of it

+ neocities comments arent the best place for the whole story but in essence, this concept has always seemed to me as a person to person thing. some might not have minded what happened to me happening to them. but i have my own issues and my own struggles and due to those it ruined me. love can hurt.

I mean, copying art is different from copying a website because it's a direct challenge to your career. Copying a website isn't, the internet is open-source. That's the point of the internet, and by participating in decentral web you should know that the web was never meant to be gated or monetized. It's an archive to take from.

This sounds like copy left, except without legal enforcement. Which I get is the point. I like it! I don't see what could possibly be an issue with it, as no one is being coersed into using copyheart

I think how "useful" this is really comes down to how you define "copying". I wouldn't mind someone using come of my code as a starting point, but if what happened to foolsparadise happened to me, I'd be pretty damn upset
