Oh, Scenery, one of the albums that started my seemingly endless exploration of Japanese music. Good memories of listening to it at 3 am when I lived alone for a short while.

Ouch. I did something similar a few weeks back... and stubbed by little toe... on the back of my other foot! It hurt for a few days. I hope yours feels better soon!

I'm sorry to hear about your toe! I'm a chronic drunk so no stranger to toe and foot injuries. If you need to go up/down stairs and it still hurts, remember you can always sit down on the first stair and just go up/down the stairs sitting down to avoid putting any weight on it.

That's a clever way of getting up and down stairs. Luckily I don't have any in my house.

Great selection for today; never heard of Takako Okamura before, but she sounds lovely.

Yeah, she has a very nice and soft voice, and the melodies in her songs are really beautiful.

I love plenty of J-pop; I loathe most K-pop. If you like Okamura, check out Yuki Saito's latter albums issued in the early- to mid-'90s.

I'm curious, what K-pop artists or groups do you like?

Yours are gratifyingly nifty lists! Admittedly, JaMC, MBV and noise rock in general isn't for everyone...

We share a partiality; catalog is one of the means by which I cope with insomnia.

I'm sorry to hear you have that problem.

Since you have A Flock of Seagulls on your music page, I assume you are familiar with their music. Can you give me some advice on bands that sound like/were influenced by them? I've listened to a bunch of New Wave bands over time, but they all sound quite different. The only band I can think of is a Basque band Delirium Tremens (perfect example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UvSvhVGZpA)

Oh man, I'm kinda terrible at comparing bands to one another. I know that signature 'A Flock of Seagulls sound' you're talking about, but now that I think about it I can't really say which other bands out there share it.

Something about their songs reminds me of the first few albums made by The Cure and soundtracks to films made by John Hughes. Maybe a few songs by Oingo Boingo have that similar feel... I'm not that familiar with New Order, but their song "Age of Consent" also comes to mind, although I don't know it that's really that similar. Sorry I couldn't offer much help.

I'll check out Oingo Boingo and John Hughes movies, thanks!

Thank you for adding the description for my website! I'm not as familiar with Oingo Boingo but they definitely have some great songs. "No One Lives Forever" and "Dead Man's Party" come to mind.

You're welcome!

@saint-images: I have a few suggestions: "Just Another Day" and "Stay" by Oingo Boingo. Are they anything like the sound you're looking for?

saint-images 3 years ago

"Just Another Day" is rather close! Both songs went straight into my playlist.

saint-images: try Thompson Twins' first four albums.

I just noticed you've added my button to the footer section of your site, thanks! ^_^

Hi. I added the button you made to my links page so that people may use it if they link to my site. I hope that's all right. ^_^
