Your blog post about cheap computing is too real. I've gotten the "cheap laptops on ebay" bug lately too :p

right on :D they're so fun to watch, not to mention the nostalgia factor. I've been thinking about an old panasonic toughbook recently too. you have any specific ones in mind?

The thing I am trying to maximize right now is a 2011-era 11 inch Acer Aspire with a first gen low-power i3, with upgraded RAM and an SSD. It's still dog slow when it comes to installing stuff, but it handles indieweb stuff just fine! I'm writing this reply on it :p

The next thing I'd like to get my hands on is a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 11e. Basically the same idea as this Acer, but with better hardware. Finding something ~11 inches with a real hard drive instead of an old eMMC is tough.

ooo I like the sound of that Thinkpad Yoga. But even that little slow Acer Aspire, for some reason, it's just really fun to browse the indie web on those lower power machines. I managed to get Linux running on a C720 Chromebook with 2 gigs of ram and it can basically handle 2 or 3 tabs on Firefox and that's about it XD Silly fun to browse with though

Of the nearly 8,000 views on my silly little page, I wonder how many of those are just me checking to see if what I coded actually works, or coming back to see the finished product. I know it's not a totally accurate count of unique user visit or anything, especially if you account for the Wayback Machine and other scrapers, but it's cool to imagine something like this having any audience at all.

(frankly, it means a lot more to me that a handful of you meaningfully engage with my updates. Work has kicked my butt this summer and I haven't had time to return the favor as much as I'd like, but y'all make neat stuff too πŸ₯Ί

I'm having a send-off for one of my ducklings (interns) that's flying the coop. They've been an incredible help this summer. I've also been propagandizing a bit, trying to get them to get a website built for their writing! They found the site tagging feature on Neocities handy, and found the idea of a web ring fascinating. Here's hoping they take a swing at it!

do you know if there is a way to change your site tags on neocities? I havent been able to figure it out and chose a bunch of generic ones when i first set my site up

go to the top right panel, click your username and then profile. scroll to the bottom to see your tags. press the delete button, and pick one of your 5 tags to delete. then you should be able to add a new one

Fun fact! Trying to code a new index page while doing an approach in a Boeing 787 is really hard! Ended up 12,000 feet high and had to hold for a while. I'll get this sucker landed and get my navigation panel set up to account for the site change in a bit.

Plane? Landed. Navigation panel? Fixed on all pages to account to the new index page and new homepage URL.
