DURING the filming of The Exorcist, freak accidents destroyed several sets, several people were injured and suffered long-term illnesses, and nine people associated with those involved with the filming died. It's easy to believe the movie itself was cursed.
In his commentary track, Friedkin elaborates on X-ray technician Paul Bateson, who essentially played himself in his professional capacity. In reality, Bateson was also a serial killer who'd a penchant for executing men who he picked up in bars after sex -- murders that (inter alia) inspired some of those in Friedkin's much-maligned and underrated "Cruising."
