Thank you so much for the comments! To answer your question, the translations are roughly chronological: I grouped songs by album, then ordered the albums in chronological order.
I didn’t even fully think out the parallels between the essay and the lyrics of “we can be together” — I just thought the name was fitting. You’re definitely on to something with the subconscious connection.
The conflict in New Pants turn towards pop music is fascinating, though I don’t really have the intellectual tools to analyze it in depth, so I just left it at a few words. I do think that, with their background and years of having languished in semi-obscurity, they’re able to make much more interesting pop music than most other musicians.
More broadly, New Pants’ label Modern Sky follows a similar pattern in the sense of taking weirdo bands and turning them into something acceptable and mainstream.
