I'm curious about the typographical reason why sidenotes look less important block-indented too. interesting! good point, i didn’t clock that. i was thinking it’s a physical manifestation of an aSIDE, like the writer is turning their head to say it out of the side of their mouth, similar to when you tell a secret.

honestly it spurred a half hour of looking into how asides are typeset in plays… like surely someone has already solved this problem
