At some point for absolutely no reason at all I'm gonna make a layout using HTML tables and probably without a doctype just purely for random fun.

Aright so I've been experimenting with different ways of basically doing what Static Ultra does. And it's quickly coming back to me I've been through all this before, and Static Ultra's way of doing it is the right way and works the way it does for a reason. Hence why I made it. 😅 So it's back to Static Ultra for me. I still think I can simplify SU for a future version, but the way it fundamentally works is correct.
