how do you guys feel about neocities profile pages? for me it feels super akin to social media and lowkey i kinda hate it. might disable this page but keep my site and communicate thru emails/guestbooks
to me it's the "good kind" of social media. not flashy, words and links, no ads, you only see stuff from people you follow. I'd be all over mainstream social media if it was all like this still
i also think it's nice.. i like that theres no algorithm and you just see posts in chronological order (like social media used to be) so you can only scroll so long until you see stuff you've already seen
I go back and forth.. I mostly use it as an update log, and (since most people don't have an RSS feed) it's nice to see when other sites update. it's also fun to send comments if someone doesn't have a guestbook set up, but I do get what you mean about it veering towards the social media ick sometimes. it def boosts your site's discoverability (if you care), so it's a double edged sword
you guys have good points :D it's a good thing that we only see people we follow and in chronological order. but also i sometimes get caught up in follower counts and number of page updates etc and wonder if it's worth disabling the profile
I like how it's done here, i agree with what people already said. I kinda learned how to not be obsessed with the follower count and views, I'm more interested on the interactions in my chat and guestbook too. I mostly use the neocities profile to discover new websites and check in on people's updates, i think it's a pretty balanced "social Media"
i agree with the hating it because its like social media aspect of it but also it's kinda more similar to forum threads than actual social media which is fine but i kinda wish it just wasnt there at all to be honest

I like it, and like barndoors, no ads or flashy links. It's nice to see what's new on other neighbors' websites

that's true. it's not intrusive with an infinite scroll so it's not inherently bad. just depends how you use it
