this was such a good listen!

Kicking off a massive update to my site. Consolidating and cleaning up CSS, getting rid of old/dead pages, and starting to play more with Javascript and moving it to a dedicated spot. I'll try to keep the feed clean. I wish we could choose which pages to feature on updates!

Just finished filming a podcast on NPR about the resurgence of physical media and this new trend with cyberdecks, and I made sure to name-drop Neocities! Long live an autonomous Internet experience!

I created an unsophisticated workaround for the Neocities hit counter that uses a Python script to call your view count and spits out a HTML string for you to paste onto your site. It requires manually running the script and pasting output onto your site, so hopefully there's a more sophisticated fix soon! Code and number images are on my GitHub! https://github.com/kdkemp/downloads/tree/main/website-view-counter

I have been thinking about this. I tried to do it in JavaScript from the client and now I understand why you do it in Python. Way to go KD.

Thought about this method too. You could use the api to create and upload a text file too, then use AJAX to pull the file contents into a div or something. Would just be so much easier if the file could be accessed by neocities pages natively, but alas.
