thinking of ways we can heighten empathy and compassion on the mainstream web but not sure how 🤔 i figure it starts offline but how to provide a solution then..? aside from systemic change..... any ideas guys .. ~_~ indie web warriors i humbly call upon thee
i think most mainstream platforms are counterintuitively designed to reward combative spaces since inflammatory content proves to be more engaging to users, so starting offline would probably be for the best at first. but i think they're incredibly useful for hosting and organizing irl community events, which at least in my experience are more effective at building stronger emotional relationships to those around you
@reyn so true !! it makes me so sad that platforms are designed to reward combative spaces... and it really shows too :(( but yes, i think prioritizing building community and fostering interpersonal relationships is really important for the development of more empathy and kindness in online spaces... irl first then url . THANK U FOR UR FEEDBACK.......
honestly i find that when i get in arguments online w people (which i used to do very often) and reply in good faith/not immediately combatively/patiently ppl tend to just chill out and respond normally even if we disagree. ofc this depends on who it is though
