We had a problem in the last flat we lived in Sheffield, UK with this. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-67633892 There was a south facing window which ran all the length of the wall. You could only open some of the windows on it, and to make things worse, you couldn't control the heating as it was district heating and you couldn't control if it was on or off. It got so hot in there that you couldn't keep

fruit and veg fresh in the summer as it would go off the day after you bought it. That was a decade ago and climate change is really noticeable now. I dread to think what it is like in places where the temperatures are even worse.

Credit companies aren't the problem - it's people caving into pressure to buy stuff they don't need/can't afford that is. Don't be greedy. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-67622801
One of the things that perplexes me about Black Friday is why companies that aren't offering physical goods ply you with offers - I thought that the whole point was to get Christmas presents for people (or yourself...). A non-physical purchase doesn't count much.

What also makes me laugh are the mobile phone offers and similar where you're paying £40 or £50 a month. Why not just use pay as go?

There must be something wrong with Radio 3 tonight because they've got Njal's Saga on.

One thing that is interesting about Njal's Saga is that you can do no wrong yourself, but the actions of people around you can still bring about a bad fate.

I'll never understand why some orgs are so bothered about giving money to amazon that they'll make their electronic libraries inaccessible to people by not making their files compatible with kindle. What's the point of it? They also have a woefully poor selection of their physical books and don't categorize their non-fiction properly so they make it difficult for people to get books that they want to read. People are

all for 'BORROW FROM THE LIBRARY!' but it's useless when you can't access the books that you want to read/listen to, etc...

I dislike days when you feel mentally and physically drained. On their own, they aren't much of a problem because you usually find a way of pushing through, but when they are both together, you don't feel like doing anything. You feel tired and have problems with back, joint and muscle pain, but it's the lack of motivation mentally that stops you from doing stuff.

I've taken advantage of the black friday sale on Amazon and got a kindle for my e-books and audible, but on the most part, it seems to be a rather cynical marketing ploy as aside from a few exceptions, the discounts either aren't that great, or they are on things that you don't want. Occasionally there might be an expensive art set, or other, but I either don't need it, or I consider it to be still too much.

If you expect good deals on a load of stuff you've been wanting for ages, you'll be disappointed as I've found most retailers don't have a lot of things in their sales and there's really no point in buying stuff you don't actually want or need, just because it's cheap. I caution against buying stuff from sites like Temu for that reason.
