Another observation if you are interested in drawing, don't just limit yourself to anime/manga. I've noticed that a lot of arty people like to draw anime and manga, but there are so many forms in nature that are interesting subjects, whether it is plants, or animals.

Been catching up with doing Inktober drawings today. Got a bit behind because I've been busy with other things. (My desk area in particular needs to be sorted out for my new computer that's (hopefully!) coming soon. One thing I have learned is that I need to practice more with certain creatures. I don't mind that they aren't perfect, though because I can see where I can improve on them, and it's interesting to draw
Was thinking of going to the cinema to see Dune, but as there aren't that many days on which they are showing it, it is likely to be more packed than I feel comfortable with. I'll give it a miss, I think...
Finished watching the new episode of Channel 5's All Creatures. One thing that lets the series down is the dishonesty that it implies the characters had, which doesn't sit well with me. It implies that Siegfried was married more than once, Helen is a tart, among other things. In this episode Siegfried's lie to Tristan about Tristan passing his exams is revealed to him. real people, so any misrepresentation or exaggeration of character flaws reflect badly on the person (even if they are gone) and causes problems for any living members of their family. It isn't right to do this for entertainment and the 'drama' should concentrate on the animals instead. The real life vet that Siegfried's character is based on wasn't keen on the books as a whole, and he didn't like how he was

portrayed in the BBC series despite the fact that he met Robert Hardy and Robert Hardy did his best to portray him as accurately as he could. I'd hate to think what he'd think of this is he was still alive.
I am glad that I cancelled my subscription to World of Cross Stitching. This month's edition is awful. Usually, I tend to find a few good designs in the mag that I want to do, but not in this one. The worst has got to be the 'free' calendar of Teddy Bears and the religious scene.

Wouldn't mind so much if they mixed the type of designs up, but they decided that this months should be all the dreadful ones. Almost regret that it did actually arrive as it was late coming.
I've got a playlist together for watercolour tutorials that I want to try out on youtube. I am hoping to do a lot of them in one of the Arteza watercolour sketch books that I bought recently. (You can get three in a pack, and they are available in different sizes.) Most of them are going to be autumn nature related. work my way through as well since I don't know that much about how you shade/add depth to watercolour pictures. One of the things that I have always loved are the watercolour backgrounds that you get in traditional animation (both cartoon series, and movies.) Ones I particularly like for that are: The Animals of Farthing Wood (obviously!), Watership Down (both the film and the ITV series), The Fox and the Hound,

The World of David the Gnome, Prince Valiant and a few others. (There are probably others, too, but these are the ones that I remember off the top of my head.) Other watercolour art that I've always admired is Edith Holden's art, and there is a lot to explore on the Biodiversity Heritage Library website. https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/
Today has been the best day in quite a while to take Max out for a longer walk. Looked for conkers, acorns and pine cones, but only found conkers today. I will be using them for some autumn decorating projects later. It's my favourite time of year when it's not too damp, cold and/or gloomy.

Oh boy... Was looking at a watercolour tutorial book and some fool gave it a low rating because they painted in the book itself, instead of sketching out the line drawing on watercolour paper. Why? Why? Why?

I am cancelling my World of Cross Stitching Subscription. I find that with a lot of these cross stitch magazines that I am not interested in the designs in them (most of the time!), and there only seems to be one or two issues a year that I'm actually interested in. This year, I am finally doing Inktober. Had planned to do it in recent years, but something always got in the way. One discovery - although I am normally good at drawing foxes, wolves, etc, I am /no/ good at all drawing bat-eared foxes. I always seem to draw the muzzle too long. Probably because I am used to drawing canids with long muzzles.

Go right ahead! But avoid the name/hashtag, the creator plagiarized another artist’s work for his book, etc.

I know about that. He's taken other people's art to sell in his own name who have done stuff for Inktober, in a book, and plagiarized a black artist's work who had written a book on how to do ink drawings because there wasn't one when he started drawing them. I plan on getting the black artist's books one day, but haven't got around to it yet. It's like the creator of National Novel Writing Month (Nano),

trying to take credit for all of the stories that everyone who participates in it creates. It's sad and money grabbing for something that's meant to improve people's art/encourage them to draw in the first place.

creatures that I don't normally do. I've also found that I am quite good at drawing birds - the only problem I seem to have there is the feather detail on the wings, and getting the markings drawn accurately. Quite surprised, really since I've always liked mammals more than birds.
